Transport Minister: Motorists will recive three penalty points on their licence if they jump red lights at Luas tracks

The Department of Transport has issued a warning to motorists driving in Dublin City. The Transport Minister has said anyone who is caught breaking red lights at Luas tracks will automatically receive three penalty points on their licence from now on.

The Transport Minister made the announcement after the installation of a new red light camera system at the junction of Blackhall Place and Benburb street Luas tracks. The Minister for transport has said if this new system turns out to be successful, it could be very well rolled out across the city.

Meanwhile Dave Rooney who is incident manager with TransDev the Luas operator spoke of the dangers of people jumping red lights on luas tracks. Mr Rooney said people are taking huge risks jumping the lights. Mr Rooney further explained: “It can range from a minor inconvenience, and an expensive one for the road user, right through to something very tragic.” “The red light camera project is about trying to prevent any of these incidents happening in the future.”
