Ahead of the planned strike on May 1, Transport Minister Pascal Donohoe has urged unions to call off the industrial action, adding that he is prepared to provide bus workers legal guarantees about their jobs and current conditions.

Mr Donohoe also said that the planned strike by NBRU workers is ‘unnecessary.’

Union bus workers recently voted overwhelmingly in favor of industrial action, in protest about plans to privatise 10% of Dublin Bus routes. SIPTU is now also considering taking industrial action.

In a statement, Mr. Donohoe said “If this day was to go ahead it will cause disruption to commuters and is in the context of very strong development from Dublin Bus, from Bus Éireann – a great year behind them after many years of difficulty.”
