It has been reported that the Minister for Transport Paschal Donohoe will make his final decision on the six proposed options to connect Swords and the airport with the city centre, by the summer at the earliest.

The proposed options are understood to include a new plan for the highly expensive Metro North project, two different DART links, a Luas link, a Bus Rapid Transit system or a combination of DART and Luas service.

It is believed that the public consultation ended last night and reports suggest that a number of transport groups such as the Automobile Association are complaining that traffic congestion within the city is returning to high levels not seen since the capital was at the height of the Celtic Tiger.

Meanwhile the National Roads Authority has claimed that the number of people using the M50 have increased by nearly 30% since it has been upgraded.

The move comes as the NRA has predicted that the number of people who will travel by car will increase across the nation by 24% between 2015 and 2035.
