
In Roscommon, a man in his 80s lost his life after being hit by a car this evening, reports The Mirror.
Shortly after 6 p.m., the pedestrian was struck by a car just outside Castlerea and was declared dead at the spot. The driver didn’t need any medical care.
Local detours are in place, and the route is still closed tonight while a forensic investigation is finished, reports The Mirror.
Anyone who may have seen the event is being urged by the Gardaí to contact detectives.
“Gardaí are appealing for witnesses following a fatal collision in County Roscommon on Monday, 27th January 2025,” said a spokesperson for An Garda Síochána, reports The Mirror.
“Shortly after 6:00pm, gardaí and emergency services responded to a collision involving a car and a pedestrian on the R377 on the outskirts of Castlerea. The pedestrian, a male in his 80s, was pronounced deceased at the scene,” they confirmed, reports The Mirror.
“The scene is preserved for a technical examination by Forensic Collision Investigators and the local Coroner has been notified. The motorist did not require immediate medical treatment,” reports The Mirror.
