
A local community has come together in support of the family of a young man from Cork who died in France over the weekend.
Cian O’Brien, aged 20, from Gleann na Rà in Tower, Co Cork, passed away while on a ski holiday in the French Alps last weekend after reportedly suffering a medical emergency, reports Breaking News.
It is believed that his friends contacted emergency services after discovering him unresponsive. Despite the efforts of first responders at the scene, Mr O’Brien was sadly pronounced dead by a local doctor on Monday, January 5th.
Paying tribute, his former GAA coach at Blarney GAA, Richard O’Driscoll, said: “I had the pleasure of coaching Cian at u15/16 at Blarney Gaa. Cian loved being around his teammates regardless of the outcome and built strong friendships through his involvement and his warm, likeable nature,” reports Breaking News.
Another neighbour shared: “Paul, we are deeply sorry to hear of Cian’s passing. We remember him as a kind, gentle young man when he worked with you on our home last year,” reports Breaking News.
“Our hearts go out to you and your family during this incredibly sad and challenging time,’’ reports Breaking News.
The Department of Foreign Affairs has confirmed that consular support is being provided to the family.
A spokesperson for the Department of Foreign Affairs said: “The Department of Foreign Affairs and Trade is aware of this case and is providing consular assistance,” reports Breaking News.
It is understood that Mr O’Brien’s family is arranging the return of his remains to Ireland with the assistance of the Kevin Bell Repatriation Trust, and funeral arrangements will be announced at a later date.
He is survived by his parents, Paul and Sabrina, and his sister Lauren, with funeral details yet to be confirmed, reports Breaking News.
