
Tributes have poured in across the country for a 6-yr-old girl who sadly died following a collision with a heavy goods vehicle (HGV) in Co Galway on Saturday.
Locals say that the community has been left traumatised and devastated after the incident.
The tragic incident occurred shortly after midday on Saturday at the junction of Headford Road and Sandyvale Lawn in Galway city.
In a statement, Gardaà said: “The collision involved a female juvenile pedal cyclist and a heavy goods vehicle at the junction of Headford Road and Sandyvale Lawn. The female pedal cyclist, aged 6 years, was fatally injured as a result of the collision. Her body was removed from the scene to University Hospital Galway and a post mortem will take place in due course,” reports Breaking News.
The driver of the truck, a man in his 30s, was not injured.
The area was sealed off for a technical examination by Garda Forensic Collision Investigators, and the road has since reopened, reports Breaking News.
Gardaà are now calling for witnesses to come forward and are particularly appealing to road users with dash-cam or other footage who were travelling on the Headford Road (N84) between the Coolough Road junction and Tirellan Heights junction between 11:45am and 12:15pm on Saturday.
