Cathal Mulvaney (44) died following a tragic accident at Lough Remore in Co Cavan, Virginia.

Mr Mulvaney is believed to have gotten himself into trouble at the famous lake while he was out walking his dog at around 10am on Sunday, reports The Mirror.

Locals are said to be in complete shock by the incident and all music was turned down Sunday night at the local lakeside hotel in the city of Virgina out of respect for Mr Mulvaney.

Local GAA club CLG Cuchulainn paid tribute, saying: “Deepest condolences to the Mulvaney family after the tragic passing of Cathal. Cathal played for Cuchulainns for many years and will be deeply missed by his family and friends,” reports The Mirror.

Mr Mullagh’s local gravedigger and independent Cavan councilor Shane P O’Reilly expressed his “sincere sympathy to the family”, reports The Mirror.
