Colin Speight was just 47 years old when he took his own life in December 2021, reports Sky.

The firefighter’s colleagues found it difficult to come to terms with his death. The loss hits them hard when they come back from work to find his set still hanging and his locker still full of stuff.

Speight, a father-of-one, first met Gordon Nimmo at a fire station in Cooper, East Scotland. The two then worked together at Glenrothes Fire Station in Fife, reports Sky.

Mr. Nimmo was staying at Mr. Speight’s family home when the police arrived to report their deaths, and Mr. Nimmo then broke the sad news to his friend’s mother.

“I’d never want to do that again,” the 43-year-old firefighter told Sky News, reports Sky.

“You deal with a lot of stuff in the fire service… you deal with fatalities and stuff like that. But you don’t have to deal with seeing your friend’s mum getting told how they found her son,” he added, reports Sky.
