Tributes paid to Irish man who died in incident off Algarve beach




An Irishman who was having trouble swimming in Portugal passed away.

Three persons at Inatel Beach in the Algarve had trouble in the sea yesterday afternoon, according to officials in Albufeira, reports RTE.

Lifeguards arrived to save them, but a 52-year-old man was declared dead on the spot.

According to Portugal’s Maritime Authority, the event is thought to have started when the man got into trouble and two other persons tried to save him, reports RTE.

According to the Department of Foreign Affairs, the case is known to them.

A representative for the agency stated in a statement that consular help is being given, reports RTE.
