Tributes paid to Irish man who survived 2001 September 11th attacks that also killed his sister and niece

Ron Clifford, an Irish man died today. He was a person  who survived the 11 September 2001 terrorist attacks in New York, in which his sister and niece died, reports RTE.

Mr Clifford, who was from Cork, was on the ground floor of the World Trade Centre when the first of the September 11 attacks took place there. He survived uninjured.

But, his sister Ruth Clifford McCourt, 44, and daughter Juliana, four, died aboard one of the planes that crashed into the World Trade Center, reports RTE.

Mr Clifford campaigned for many years to ensure that those who planned the terrorist attacks were brought to justice.

He died sudden last night at his home in Connecticut, US, reports RTE.
