An Irish woman who went missing on Tuesday in Western Australia has been found dead, according to local police.

Fiona Lavelle, 41, hiked in the Hellfire Bay area when temperatures soared into the 40s that day.

She expressed concern over not being able to contact her husband. Shortly afterwards, the police found her Nissan Navara parked near the national park, starting a search for her, reports The Mirror.

A dedicated team conducted a hunt in the area, which discovered the Mayo woman’s body shortly after the search began at Cape Le Grand National Park.

A report is being prepared for the local coroner and a post-mortem will take place in due course. Her remains are expected to be flown back to Ireland for cremation and burial.

Ms Lavelle worked as a St John WA paramedic and a spokesperson has since said she was “”lovely person,” who loved “the outdoor life, especially hiking”, reports The Mirror.

“Our thoughts are with the family and colleagues of our team member,” the spokesperson said in a statement to Perth Now. Our focus is on supporting our people and the broader St John community. We offer our thanks to WA Police, the State Emergency Service and all those who participated in the search,” reports The Mirror.
