Tributes paid to legendary French actress, Brigitte Bardot, who has passed away aged 91

Brigitte Bardot, the legendary French actress and singer who became a global symbol of sensuality and liberation in the 1950s and 1960s, has died at the age of 91. Her passing today, in Toulon followed a serious illness and surgery earlier in the fall, though no specific cause was disclosed by her foundation.

Born in Paris in 1934, Bardot rose to fame with her breakout role in And God Created Woman, directed by Roger Vadim, captivating audiences with her uninhibited portrayal of female desire. Her tousled hair, pouty lips, and free-spirited characters redefined screen sexuality, influencing fashion, music, and culture worldwide.

After starring in over 40 films, including collaborations with directors like Jean-Luc Godard, Bardot retired from acting in 1973 at age 39. She then devoted her life to animal rights activism, founding the Brigitte Bardot Foundation in 1986 to combat cruelty and protect wildlife.

Bardot’s legacy endures as a trailblazer who embodied postwar freedom while later championing compassionate causes until her final days.
