Tributes paid to man (80s) who has sadly died after entering water off Dublin Bay

A man in his eighties has died after getting into difficulty in the water off Dublin Bay on Saturday.

Dún Laoghaire Coast Guard said it was alerted to assist a Coast Guard Rescue 116 helicopter following reports from Dublin Port of people on the Great South Wall during hazardous sea conditions, reports RTE.

Rescue crews identified a person in the water and attempted to carry out a rescue, but severe sea conditions made the operation impossible.

The man’s body was later recovered during a joint operation involving gardaí, Dublin Fire Brigade and the National Ambulance Service, reports RTE.

It is understood the man may have been accompanied by a younger family member prior to entering the water.

In a message shared on social media, Dún Laoghaire Coast Guard urged the public to avoid coastal areas during stormy sea conditions, reports RTE.
