The 33-year-old man gave his life to save his niece from suffering major injuries, according to statements made at his burial last week after he was involved in a car accident in Ballina, County Mayo, reports RTE.

James Moyles passed away on Tuesday night in Ballina, County Mayo, following his collision with a vehicle. Croia, his six-year-old niece, was hurt but made it through the collision.

Fr. Anthony Gillespie informed the mourners during his burial that Mr. Moyles “put her first without a thought for himself, such was his loving nature and his character”, reports RTE.

Seamus Hyland, the deceased’s cousin, stated in a eulogy that Mr. Moyles’ generosity and good nature had impacted the lives of many people during his life.

He continued: “The last thing that James did on this earth was to make a split-second decision to save his little niece, Croia, by pushing her away from danger. James showed great courage when it was needed most. He died a hero because of what he did,” reports RTE.
