Tragic homages are being given to the two Ryanair pilots who perished in a car accident while commuting to work, reports The Mirror.
The two were going in a cab to Liverpool Airport when the incident with two lorries and a vehicle occurred on the M62 near Warrington on Thursday at 5:31 a.m.
They are identified as 24-year-old Jamie Fernandes and 28-year-old Matt Greenhalgh, who worked as Ryanair’s captain and senior first officer, respectively. Specialised police officers are providing assistance to their next of kin, according to Cheshire Police, reports The Mirror.
According to Liverpool ECHO, the cab driver is receiving critical medical treatment at a hospital while the two men passed away at the spot.
The 61-year-old man who was operating one of the two lorries was detained on suspicion of driving recklessly and killing someone or seriously hurting someone, reports The Mirror.
Anyone with information or dashcam footage is urged to get in touch with Cheshire Police.
Based on his LinkedIn page, Mr. Fernandes has worked for the airline since May of this year. Prior to that, he held positions as junior first officer and second officer. Prior to obtaining his pilot’s licence at Quebec-based CAE, he attended independent Bolton School and Buckinghamshire New University, reports The Mirror.
