The community of Ballakolla, Co. Laois, is trying to come to terms with the death of a local youth in a farming accident in New Zealand a few days ago.

Sean Cleary, who would have celebrated his 25th birthday today (Monday, 20 February), has been reported to have died while working with machinery which allegedly collided with power lines.

He is survived by his parents Tom and Julia and sister Ella. His father, Clough, was a former chairman of the Ballacolla GAA club, reports Agriland.ie.

Another local club, Ballypikes GAA, have been among those to pay tribute to the youngster. A message read: “The club would like to express their deepest sympathy and condolences to Tom, Julia and Ella Clear, Ballacolla on the very sad loss of their son and brother Sean. Our thoughts and prayers are with the family, extended family and friends of Sean. May he rest in peace,” reports Agriland.ie.
