An Irish-born bishop has been shot dead in Los Angeles.
69-year-old Bishop David O’Connell, originally from the Cork area, had been serving the Catholic church in Los Angeles for over 45 years.
Bishop O’Connell was shot 1pm on Saturday in the 1500 block of Janlu Avenue in Hacienda Heights of the City with police responding within minutes.
They worked on the Irish man but sadly paramedics pronounced him dead at the scene.
The death is being treated as suspicious with an investigation underway.
