Kitty Jeffery, the oldest woman in Ireland, has away at the astounding age of 109. Tributes have been made to her, reports Independent.

After a brief illness, Kitty passed away at Cork University Hospital (CUH) with her loving family by her side.

Only last year did she become the oldest living woman in Ireland.

Kitty had been looked after by her daughters and grandkids at the family home outside of Cloyne in east Cork until recently, reports Independent.

She was born in Glenville, just north of Cork city, on November 12, 1914, and experienced some of the most significant moments in Irish history. She can clearly remember the Civil War, the War of Independence, the suffering during World War II, and the numerous economic booms and busts that Ireland has seen over the past century.

Kitty never smoked or drank, and she put a lot of effort into helping her parents and then her own family throughout her life, reports Independent.
