Turn it on: Drogheda residents “hopeful” of getting water restored later today

The people of Drogheda have been left without water for almost 48 hours at this stage – and they’re not happy having voiced their concerns of health and safety until the service is restored.

Emergency services have urged Drogheda residents to keep an eye on their elderly and disabled neighbours as a severe shortage of water has struck the County Louth town. It’s believed some elderly and disabled people may not have enough water to even make a cup of tea.

Drogheda and its surrounding suburbs are without water for the entire weekend after a burst water main was reported in the town on Friday afternoon.

According to Water.ie, the works to fix the mains supply will not be completed until 2pm today at the earliest with other reports claiming 7pm.

The company say the shortage comes after a leak occurred on the main that brings water to the Staleen Water Treatment Plant.
