The current Television Licence fee is under review it has been revealed.
According to the Minister for Arts, Culture and Heritage, Josepha Madigan, the fee is being looked at by the Minister for Communications Dennis Naughten.
Speaking before Government’s Audiovisual Action Plan, this afternoon Ms Madigan claimed that the current fee must be reviewed as the world is changing and Ireland as a country must move with the times.
It is believed the latest review has come after the National broadcaster RTÉ confirmed that they suffered an operating deficit of €6.4m in 2017.
Although no formal plans have been made in regards to a fee increase, it is understood the current fee is being reviewed as many working within RTÉ say the company will suffer in the long term due to declining revenues.
