Two newborns were found dead in a garbage bag in a day care centre toilet, reports Metro.
The children were found Thursday, a day after care workers found their mother bleeding in a restroom, the Chicago Sun-Times reported.
They were discovered at the Bernice Lavin Early Childhood Education Center on the Northwestern Memorial Hospital campus shortly before 7 p.m.
According to the police report, the 29-year-old worked in a day care and attended classes there. She did not show up for class on Thursday and was found by staff in the first-floor bathroom just before 6:00 p.m, reports Metro.
According to the report, restroom cleaning staff found a black garbage bag in the cupboard where the newborn girls were unresponsive.
The children were taken to Lurie Children’s Hospital but could not be saved. The cause of their deaths was not immediately established.
A Northwestern Medicine spokesperson told FOX 32 that “an emergency medical situation involving a daycare employee occurred’ and that the city fire and police departments were called. No daycare children were involved or impacted by the situation,’ stated the spokesperson. ‘We are working with CPD regarding this incident and unable to comment further at this time,” reports Metro.
