
Two people have pleaded not guilty to the murder of a 61-year-old man who was discovered dead in his home in Macroom, Co Cork, last year.
Daniel Hourigan and Linda O’Flynn appeared before the Central Criminal Court sitting in Cork on Wednesday, accused of the murder of Michael “Mikey” Foley in 2024, reports Breaking News.
Both defendants, who are 32 years old, were formally arraigned before Ms Justice Siobhan Lankford.
Each responded, stating they were “not guilty of murder but guilty of assisting an offender under Section 7, subsection 2 of the Criminal Law Act, 1997,” reports Breaking News.
They are both charged with murdering Michael Foley on a date between January 31st and February 1st, 2024, in Macroom, Co Cork.
A jury made up of nine men and three women was sworn in to hear the case, which is due to open on Thursday and is expected to continue for about two weeks, reports Breaking News.
Mr Hourigan is originally from Farranree on Cork city’s northside, while Ms O’Flynn previously lived in the Hollyhill area.
Mr Foley was found dead in his home at the Annville Sheltered Housing Complex on Barrett’s Place, Macroom, on February 6th, 2024, reports Breaking News.
A murder investigation began following the results of a post-mortem carried out by Assistant State Pathologist Dr Margaret Bolster at Cork University Hospital.
Mr Foley, who was originally from Scartagh in Clonakilty, Co Cork, was later buried in St Mary’s Cemetery after a requiem mass at the Church of the Immaculate Conception in Clonakilty, reports Breaking News.
