Emergency services sprang into action tonight as the Defence Forces’ Explosive Ordnance Disposal (EOD) unit, Ireland’s elite bomb disposal squad, was urgently deployed to Dublin’s north inner city following reports of a suspicious device.
Gardaà received a call around 9:30 PM alerting them to a potential threat near a residential area in the heart of the district, prompting an immediate lockdown. Streets including parts of Summerhill and surrounding lanes were cordoned off for safety. Blue lights flashed under the dim streetlamps as heavily armed officers and EOD specialists arrived in armoured vehicles, their suits glinting in the chill autumn air.
Eyewitnesses described a tense atmosphere, with helicopters hovering overhead and traffic grinding to a halt. “We heard the sirens and saw the barriers go up fast,” one local told The Liberal. “It’s scary – this area’s seen enough trouble.”
