Two people rescued over the weekend after separate falls from cliffs




A multi-agency operation was launched after a person tragically fell from a cliff in Bundoran, County Donegal, reports RTE.

Shortly after 7 am Saturday, a concerned member of the public heard the cries for help and promptly contacted the emergency services.

Bundoran RNLI volunteers swiftly arrived at the scene and found the casualty lying at the base of the cliff, having landed on the rocks, reports RTE.

An RNLI crew on the ground worked tirelessly to recover the casualty and bring them to safety. Meanwhile, the Sligo-based Coast Guard helicopter, Rescue 11, descended to assist.

The casualty was stabilized and airlifted by Rescue 118 before being transferred to Sligo General Hospital for further medical attention, reports RTE.

Bundoran RNLI Lifeboat Operations Manager, Daimon Fergus, expressed gratitude to the vigilant member of the public who raised the alarm.

He acknowledged the challenging nature of the situation and emphasized the swift response and teamwork displayed by all agencies involved. Fergus stated that the casualty was reached promptly and is now receiving the medical care they urgently need, reports RTE.

The RNLI manager extended his heartfelt wishes for a speedy and full recovery for the unfortunate individual.

In a separate incident that occurred last night, a man in his 20s tragically fell from a cliff in Lahinch, County Clare, reports RTE.

The alarm was raised at 10:15 pm, and the Coast Guard was promptly assisted by gardaí, the Clare County Fire and Rescue Service, and the ambulance service.

The Shannon-based Rescue 115 helicopter arrived at the scene, along with the Doolin Coastguard Unit, reports RTE.

The Coastguard described the rescue operation as extremely challenging, as the man had fallen into an inaccessible area.

The man sustained a lower leg injury, but fortunately, his injuries are not life-threatening, reports RTE.

He was airlifted to University Hospital Galway, where he is currently receiving treatment.
