
Two individuals were taken into custody following an attempted break-in in the early hours of Saturday, which sparked a high-speed pursuit across counties and involved a Garda vehicle being struck, reports The Mirror.
Around 4:20am on Saturday, Gardaí received a call regarding a burglary at a home in the Parkmore area of Roscrea, Co. Tipperary.
Various belongings and an amount of cash were reported stolen. Since then, other similar reports have emerged from the Parkmore locality.
At around 5:45am, Gardaí based in Killaloe, Co. Clare, were alerted to an attempted break-in at a business property on Convent Hill. While responding to this call, a vehicle intentionally rammed into a marked Garda patrol car, reports The Mirror.
Gardaí followed the suspect vehicle at a safe distance through Ballina and towards Birdhill, during which objects were thrown from the vehicle at the pursuing Garda car.
The suspects continued onto the M7 motorway, driving recklessly by heading southbound in the lane meant for northbound traffic, reports The Mirror.
With help from the Armed Support Unit in Limerick, the vehicle was eventually stopped on Golf Links Road in Ballysimon, Co. Limerick.
Two males, one in his 40s and the other in his 20s, were apprehended at the location and are currently held at a Garda station within the Clare/Tipperary Division under Section 4 of the Criminal Justice Act, 1984, reports The Mirror.
Several of the stolen items were found at the location. Gardaí impounded the suspect vehicle for forensic analysis. No Garda personnel were injured during the incident.
Gardaí are urging anyone who may have witnessed these events to come forward.
A Garda spokesperson said: “Gardaí are appealing for witnesses following a number of incidents that occurred in the Clare/Tipperary division in the early hours of Saturday”, reports The Mirror.
They added: “Any persons who may have camera footage (including dash-cam) in the Roscrea, Co. Tipperary and Killaloe, Co. Clare areas between 3:00am and 6:00am are asked to make this footage available to investigating Gardaí. In particular, Gardaí are appealing to anyone who may have witnessed the movements of a Laois (LS) registered black BMW 520 in these areas in the early hours of Saturday, 30 August, 2025,” reports The Mirror.
