Pop star Bono has said that he dislikes the name “U2” and is “embarrassed” by most of U2’s songs.
According to RTE, Bono gave an interview with the Awards Chatter podcast in which he spoke about how he doesn’t even like his own singing voice. He said that he goes “scarlet” when he hears U2 songs on the radio.
61-year-old Bono said that he’s only recently learned to sing and that his vocals make him “cringe a little bit”.
U2, which is one of the biggest bands in the world, got its name when Steve Averill of Dublin bank The Radiators suggested it in the 1970s. He spoke about how Paul McGuinness, the band’s manager, liked the name as he thought it would look good on t-shirts.
Bono also said that “Vertigo” is his favourite song of the band’s repertoire.
