Irish UFC star “The Notorious” Conor McGregor made waves on Twitter last night when he announced his retirement in one tweet.
The UFC champion was pulled from his upcoming UFC 200 bout against Nate Diaz, leaving fans in disbelief.
While a majority panicked and a minority said that it must be a joke or publicity stunt, the news was confirmed as fact with a short tweet from McGregor’s coach John Kavanagh.
“It was fun while it lasted.”
Since the announcement, MMA and UFC fans everywhere have speculated what McGregor’s next move will be; but could it be WWE?
Shortly after McGregor posted a tweet announcing his retirement, WWE star Becky Lynch tweeted him asking him to “come join us”.
This added fuel to the fire and McGregor followed notable WWE accounts on Twitter such as that of Triple H and Shane McMahon among others. His interest in WWE was never hugely documented, but he was rumoured to be a surprise guest at a WWE event in Dallas recently. Wrestlemania 32 went ahead without him in this instance.
Will this be McGregor’s next move? Only time will tell as the sports world awaits his statement.
