UK Councils will have permission to demolish contaminated buildings, including homes, should a second wave of the Covid-19 virus become uncontrollable

Local Councils in the UK have been given the power to demolish care homes, factories, offices as well as private homes as a last resort if the Covid-19 virus begins to get out of control as fears over a second wave of the virus grow.

Magistrates could also approve the destruction of contaminated cars, buses, trains and aeroplanes the UK Telegraph has reported.

These new measures come as British Prime Minister Boris Johnson says that the loosening of Covid-19 lockdown restraints on the public will be slowed to avoid a dreaded second wave of the Coronavirus.

The Telegraph reports that Councils will be able to draw on six separate Acts of Parliament to impose lightning closures of public buildings, order mass testing, ban events or shut down whole sectors of the economy.

Many however, have called these new measures Orwellian and fear that the new powers will not be relinquished once the Covid-19 virus is overcome.
