The British government has ordered the bulk buying of hydroxychloroquine as a potential treatment for the Covid-19 virus infection.
The anti-malaria drug has been touted by US President Trump who is himself taking the FDA approved medication to guard against contracting the Chinese virus and now UK ministers has seeking 16 million tablets part of a £35 million contract put out to tender last Friday.
While the drug is primarily associated with treating or preventing malaria and other diseases and ailments such as lupus and rheumatoid arthritis it has not yet been accepted by all as a treatment or prophylactic for Covid-19 although numerous doctors across the world have described its effectiveness against the virus.
Meanwhile, more in-depth studies are taking place into the effectiveness of hydroxychloroquine in the treatment of Covid-19 patients in the US, Europe and the UK.
