The UK has temporarily banned operations of all its Boeing 777 aircraft fitted with Pratt & Whitney 4000-112 engines, following two recent incidents involving this component.
A cargo plane departing from Maastricht in the Netherlands on Saturday had to turn back after the catastrophic failure of one of its engines. Debris from the aircraft injured a woman on the ground.
Earlier in the day, an aircraft departing from Hawaii had to perform an emergency landing following a similar incident.
There were no fatalities in either event.
