Ukraine counter-offensive: Russian artillery opens up on their own surrendering soldiers after the loss of Andriivka

Battlefield reports are emerging of Russian artillery opening up on their own surrendering soldiers after the loss of Andriivka.

The incident reportedly happened as the 2nd Assault Group attached to the 3rd Assault Brigade bravely surrounded Russian troopers holed up in a nearby trench. As the Russian soldiers emerge, hands up in the air, Ukrainian operators force them to lie on the ground, assault rifles trained squarely on them. A few seconds later, a shell detonates amidst the group, killing and maiming the surviving Russian soldiers.

Ukrainian command believes that Russian officers engaged in ‘friendly fire’ after realizing that Andriivka was all but lost, and wanted to take revenge on the conscripts that lost the battle.

There have been multiple reports of Russian commanders executing their own soldiers if they attempt to surrender or retreat. This barbaric practice was also prevalent during Soviet times.
