Ukraine has scored a major victory against the invader after shooting down two major Russian aerial targets.
The downed aircraft were reportedly an A-50 and an IL-22, an early warning plane and an aerial command post respectively. Both machines were primary objectives for Ukraine’s air defence grid. The planes were struck over the Sea of Azov, a sector that Russian intelligence believed to be safe for flight operations. They have now learned otherwise the hard way.
The loss of these aircraft represents a crippling blow to Russia’s air force in the area, as fighter jets and ground support aircraft will now be forced to operate without coordination, which will make them easy prey for well-trained and well-motivated Ukrainian anti-aircraft crews.
