Ukrainian troops have posted videos online showing themselves greasing their 7.62mm rounds with pigs’ fat in anticipation of fighting with Russian Chechen soldiers, who being Muslim, are forbidden from coming into contact with the animal or any products derived from it.
Al Jazeera reports that the Ukrainian National Guard shared a video on its Twitter account that appears to show fighters of the ultra-nationalist Azov Battalion preparing for combat with Muslim Chechens by rubbing their bullets in pigs’ fat.
The Azov Battalion who are white supremacist and openly use Nazi symbology have been fighting side by side with the Ukrainian army against Russian backed separatists in the east of the country since the Western sponsored coup in 2014.
In the video the masked fighter is seen dipping rounds of ammunition into pigs fat before loading them into a magazine.
He can be heard saying in Ukrainian:
“Dear Muslim brothers. In our country, you will not go to heaven. You will not be allowed into heaven. Go home, please. Here, you will encounter trouble. Thank you for your attention, goodbye.”
