There is speculation that the President of Ukraine, Volodymyr Zelenskyy, was joking or even drunk when he appeared at a press conference on Thursday and pleaded with Russian President Putin to negotiate with him face to face.
Footage of the conference shows a slumped and slurring Zelensky make an impassionate appeal to Putin to meet him face to face “not like Macron thirty metres away” referring to a photo op between President Putin and French President Macron during which each leader sat at either ends of a long table.
Many have speculated that the former actor/comedian may be drunk or on drugs while others have insisted, he was simply tired and emotional.
President Putin had referred to the Ukranian leadership as a “gang of junkies” but it is unknown if he was personally referring to Zelensky himself.
