Ukrainian woman living in Offaly pleads guilty to driving without insurance

Tetyana Anikyeyeva, 63, of Clyduff, Kilclonfert, Rhode Island, entered a guilty plea to the charge on October 7 of last year at Molesworth Street, Daingean, reports Offaly.

Attorney Tony McLynn submitted the plea on her behalf at Tullamore District Court, stating that she had fled an extremely trying situation in Kiev on April 7, 2022, following the outbreak of war in that city.

Ms. Anikyeyeva was not listed as a named driver on the insurance policy for the car in which she was stopped, but her 34-year-old daughter was, and they were staying with a host family. The host family was the owner of the vehicle, reports Offaly.

At the time of her stop, she intended to practise driving and possessed a Ukrainian driving licence. Mr. McLynn stated it was her one and only opportunity to drive.

A fine of €300 was levied by Judge Andrew Cody, reports Offaly.
