Uncertainty over Tesco jobs here in Ireland as Tesco UK plans to make dramatic changes to stores, which might result in massive layoffs

There’s an air of uncertainty over Irish Tesco jobs today, as Tesco UK prepares to introduce changes that may make thousands of staff redundant across Britain.

The changes will see a number of in-store counter closures, such as the elimination of meat, deli, and fish counters, as well as replacing staff canteens with vending machines. Such move puts thousands of jobs at risk.

Bakery counters may also be compromised, as fresh dough may be replaced with frozen stuff, which would mean skilled bakers would no longer be needed.

HQ insists that Irish branches will remain unaffected by these changes, but a cloud of uncertainty remains, specially over Brexit and its implications.
