Undertakers say anyone who dies from coronavirus may have to be buried or cremated immediately with no funeral

Funeral directors have advised that any funeral services should be postponed in the event that someone passes away from the Coronavirus.

According to The Irish Association of Funeral Directors, anyone who passes away as a result of the illness should be immediately buried or cremated without any funeral services.

Speaking on RTÉ’s Today with Sean O’Rourke programme Keith Massey, of Rom Massey & Son Funeral Directors, said that there is an increased risk for undertakers and others as it is not yet known if the virus can be passed on from the deceased to the living.

Mr Massey said that the virus could be potentially passed on as air sometimes is trapped inside the lungs after you pass away.

It is Mr Massey’s comments come after the Irish Association of Funeral Directors released a statement on Tuesday saying they are currently in liaison with health officials, coroners and the Department of Health.

The Irish Association of Funeral Directors say they are continuing to follow guidelines and any such measures implemented will be carried out with the upmost respect to any potential victims family and relatives.
