Unexploded bomb forces the evacuation of 60,000 people in the German city of Frankfurt

The discovery of a large explosive device, believed to be a remnant from the Second World War, has forced the evacuation of 60,000 residents from a Frankfurt suburb in Germany.

Crews working in a building site stumbled across the device, which is believed to be powerful enough to level a city block.

Local authorities coordinated the evacuation and will attempt to remove the bomb’s fuse using a remotely-controlled device.

About 2,000 tonnes of munitions are found scattered across German cities every year.
