United Airlines flight forced to make emergency landing at Newark Airport after mechanical failure on board

A United Airlines flight was forced to make an emergency landing at Newark Airport in New Jersey earlier today,  after its crew detected a mechanical failure on board.

United Airlines Flight 2098 had just departed from New York’s La Guardia Airport when the crew decided to land again as soon as possible.

The aircraft touched down in nearby Newark Airport and blew two tires on impact with the runway, but no one was injured. The crew deployed the emergency slides so the plane could be evacuated quickly.

Newark Airport was closed for a time but has since re-opened.
