University Limerick to introduce LGBT+ accommodation for students

The University of Limerick has confirmed that it is to offer LGBT+ housing to students beginning from September.

Under the new initiative, the University is to offer an exclusive LGBT+ accommodation that will help lesbian, gay and transgender adapt to University life.

In a move that is first for the country, University Limerick say the accommodation will provide a safe and secure environment for those who wish to stay in the accommodation.

University Limerick say the accommodation will be located in the the wider halls of residence on campus which has 2,800 beds.

The move comes as the University of Sheffield in South Yorkshire, England introduced a similar initiative last year.

University Limerick say they have already received over 200 applications from across the world who request to stay at the accommodation.
