Up to 30,000 people displaced in Sydney due to major flood emergency

A dangerous combination of torrential rain and rapid dam failure has caused Sydney’s rivers to overflow at an alarming rate.

More than 30,000 people have been told to evacuate their homes amid the Sydney flood emergency which killed one man.

The suburbs of Hawkesbury in Richmond, Windsor, Sackville and Wisemans Ferry are of most concern as the areas are expected to experience severe flooding over the next 24 hours.

Dozens of evacuation orders have been issued in Sydney, affecting 32,000 residents after heavy rain fell overnight.

Evacuation orders were issued for parts of Cattai, Sackville North, Londonderry and Richards on Monday and Tuesday morning.
