Commuters in the year 2030 will be able to avoid rush hour traffic if the Japanese Government has their way.

According to Sky News, huge progress has been made in the development of flying cars. One was recently tested in Japan and thanks to its four propellers, it was able to hover steadily for about a minute.

The car’s flight was demonstrated inside a huge cage at a facility near Tokyo. A huge test course is currently being developed to continue work. While the latest flight represents a huge development towards the success of the flying cars, lots of issues must still be resolved – battery life, safety concerns and the need for regulations to be put in place.

The car is intended to be able to land and take off vertically without the need for pilots. As a result, they are expected to be better than helicopters which need pilots and are more expensive and noisy to maintain.

Several other companies are also working on the development of flying cars so the time when consumers will be able to use them might not be too far off.
