Uproar as government consider imposing financial penalties on nurses who strike

Sometimes enough really is enough and judging by the comments on social media over the past 24 hours, this is one of those times.

The public appear to be fully supporting nurses in their strike for better working conditions, and judging what the state of the health service that Simon Harris leads – who can blame them?

There’s been widespread condemnation after the government is said to be seriously considering imposing financial penalties on nurses who went on strike and will be on strike again in February.

According to Kfm Radio, the Government are considering plans to take legal action on whether or not they can impose financial penalties on those who undertake strike action.

The Tanasite Simon Coveney confirmed in the Dail yesterday that the government are looking at all legal avenues in relation to potentially imposing financial penalties on those who were on strike yesterday and will again strike later in February.

It is understood that the government would impose restrictions as the strike action is currently in breach of the Public Pay Service Agreement.

Under the probable legal action the Government could impose restrictions such as a pay increase freeze and other penalties.

Kfm say that the Minister for Health Simon Harris is considering all options.
