Tragically Fr John Cummins died last Wednesday when his car was involved in an accident at the parochial house in Abbeyleix, Co. Laois.

The parish turned out to mourn the poor 51-yr-old man after such a tragedy in a Remembrance Mass.

What they were greeted with were numerous cars clamped when they came out from the Mass.

People took to social media to convey their outrage.

One social media user said “The Church was packed, Fr John was a great man. It was awful though to come out and find my car clamped”.

There’s been uproar as a result of the clamping with local councillor Walter Lacey telling Kclrfm said:
“We discussed this at a council meeting on Thursday.”

“The council are contacting the owners of the site about the carry on.”

“There’s no point in talking to clampers. They simply don’t care. It’s also a private site and the council have no authority over it. The signage and lighting are inadequate.”

Fr Cummins’ funeral will take tomorrow at 11am in St Conleth’s Parish Church, Newbridge, Co Kildare, with burial afterwards in the adjoining cemetery.”
