The Republican nominee, Donald Trump, raised doubts about his participation in the highly anticipated US presidential debate scheduled for next month on ABC, and there was back-and-forth between his team on the use of live microphones, reports RTE.

Due to continued disagreements, Mr. Trump has previously declined to take part in the matchup with Democratic candidate Kamala Harris on September 10.

The Republican candidate for president questioned ABC’s perceived bias on his Truth Social media platform, asking, “Why would I do the Debate against Kamala Harris on that network?”

According to the Harris campaign, there was a deadlock between the two sides on whether or not each candidate’s microphone would be muted throughout their respective remarks, reports RTE.

When it wasn’t a candidate’s turn to speak, microphones were switched off during a CNN debate between Mr. Trump and President Joe Biden, the Democratic nominee at the time.

Mr. Biden negotiated this requirement, which was intended to be applicable to the September ABC debate as well.

However, Ms. Harris, who took over for Joe Biden following his appalling performance at the CNN debate, would rather see a return to the custom of leaving the microphones on, reports RTE.

Her communication director, Brian Fallon, released a statement saying, “We believe both candidates’ mics should be live throughout the full broadcast.”

He said that “Trump’s handlers prefer the muted microphone because they don’t think their candidate can act presidential for 90 minutes” .

According to the Trump administration, the terms should be met, reports RTE.

“I’m tired of the games. Senior advisor Jason Miller told Politico, “We accepted the ABC debate on the same conditions as the CNN debate.

Politico reports that the Harris campaign thinks Donald Trump would lose his cool or say something inappropriate in a microphone-in debate.

Just two weeks before the debate, which is set to take place in Philadelphia, the two candidates are tied in the polls, reports RTE.
