US President Donald Trump is said to be considering the possibility of asking the Danish Government to purchase Greenland off them.
Greenland is an autonomous territory under Danish sovereignty. The island is home to about 56,000 people, mostly of Inuit descent, and crucially, it is also home to Thule Air Base, the US’ northernmost military installation. Thule features a radar array that continuously monitors the skies for incoming Russian threats.
It is not the first time that a US President considers the purchase of Greenland. Harry Truman offers $100 million to buy the island back in 1946. The offer was declined.
