Vaccinations could become mandatory for children under new proposals outlined by the Minister for Health

Vaccinations for all children could become mandatory under new proposals outlined by the Minister for Health Simon Harris.

It is understood that Minister Harris will has written to the Attorney General seeking legal advice on the matter.

Harris who has previously stated that he and the Government are looking at ways to introduce a mandatory vaccination system, said that he finds it somewhat irresponsible that some children are being sent to schools and creches across the country without being vaccinated.

He added that he intends to write a letter every member of the Oireachtas calling on them to support a programme for childhood immunisation.

It is also believed that the Government are considering looking at how other countries deal with the issue.
