The Minister for Health Leo Varadkar has blasted claims that the government is trying to sneak in the new water charges legislation.

Mr Varakdar has labeled the claims as “ridiculous” and has stated that everyone has been made fully aware of the governments plans.

The news comes after reports claim that the government are thinking of introducing a new measure that will see homeowners being unable to sell their current property unless they pay their outstanding water charges, it is understood that the new measures are likely to be forward next week.

However Mr Varadkar has strongly insisted that the Government has been open and has made everyone fully aware about these new measures and the legislation in general.

Mr Varadkar told reporters: “The suggestion that we’re trying to sneak it in is kind of ridiculous,””The Bill is published on the world-wide web for anyone to read who wants to and there’s going to be an extensive debate in the Dáil. “The Dáil is sitting I think ’till pretty much 10pm every night next week, or at least through to Thursday night.

He added:”So it’s being published in the normal way; there’ll be plenty of opportunity for amendments and plenty of opportunity for debate.”

Mr Varadkar’s comments come after a week were anti water charge protesters have yet again voiced their disapproval at the imposed charges, with Anti-Austerity Alliance leader Paul Murphy TD claiming that the campaign against water charges will soon declare victory.
