People are getting mixed messages from Micheal Martin, Leo Varadkar, Eamon Ryan and Stephen Donnelly.

Former Taoiseach appointee and current Tanaiste Leo Varadkar said towards the end of February that the Government ‘cannot rule out’ another lockdown down the road, even after the entire country is vaccinated.

Mr. Varadkar said that further lockdowns might be required if new virus waves hit Ireland.

However, as the vast majority of the country took up the offer of a vaccine, it now seems as though Ireland could be facing more uncertain waters.

Speaking in the Dail on Thursday, Varadkar said about the prospect of the easing of remaining restrictions, there would be no question about the lifting of restrictions as there would only be 200 people in hospital and 25 in ICU if everyone was fully vaccinated.

It’s understood that NPHET will meet with the government on Tuesday to determine what their guidance is going forward over the coming weeks, including whether the planned reopening on October 22nd can go ahead.
