Varadkar say that he has absolutely ‘no plans’ for early general election

Leo Varadkar, the Taoiseach, has declared that he is “not planning” an early election and that the Government’s work and “doing what the people want” are his top priorities, reports RTE.

While outlining the government’s priorities, Mr. Varadkar stated that “there is no date in mind” while speaking on RTÉ’s This Week show.

He said: “That is building more homes, helping families with cost of living, putting more money back in people’s pockets, it is focusing on law and order, building safer and stronger communities, and also safeguarding the economic progress that we have made which we shouldn’t take for granted,” reports RTE.

Regarding housing, Mr. Varadkar expressed his desire to see a decrease in the income-to-price ratio.

“What people will say is ‘house prices are high’, and they are high, but you always have to look at how they are relative to incomes. Roughly speaking in Ireland now, house prices are roughly seven to eight times the average income or four to five times the household income because most people buy as a couple,” reports RTE.
